Most of us already know that content marketing is king. However, not everyone has the time or indeed the expertise in-house to create must-read blogs, a speciality of ours here at Plus 1 Digital! If you want help creating great content, get in touch, we’d love to hear from you. In the meantime, if you aren’t quite ready to hand over the reins, here are some trade secrets that will earn you some quick wins, but shhh, keep our blogging tips under your hat!

Some of us write blogs and share them across our social channels but find the traffic is still quite low. It takes 3 months before Google starts to reflect your SEO efforts, so if you are still a newbie, be patient, you will get there. That being said, there are a few school boy errors that may still be holding you back and are easily avoided. Check out these 7 blogging tips and see if your traffic improves – we want to know either way!

1. Good Performance Starts to Kick in After 50 Posts

Statistics say that the traffic to your blog increases by 53% after you have published 50 posts, that it goes up 3 times after 100 posts and by 4.5 times after 200 posts. Posting on a regular basis will not only improve traffic as your audience will learn when to expect new issues but will also help with volume.

2. Images Matter

Images are almost as important as the text. Having a lot of images attracts more backlinks. Try to include screenshots, graphs and infographics in your posts. Always use your best images, a string of low quality pictures can damage your credibility – see point 3!

3. Credibility Factor

Well designed layout and quality content are the main factors that add credibility to a blog. Try to make these 2 factors your priority. The design should be simple but engaging and the posts should be optimised for mobile. Post lists should also be easy to filter and navigate.

4. Success Has Many Fathers

63% of people feel that multiple authors add more credibility to a blog. Encourage people to guest post on your blog. Create accounts for each of your internal bloggers and ask them to write a short profile introducing themselves as a different personality with authority in specific subjects. A side effect of this will be that you will get a better quality content as your bloggers will be putting their name to their own posts.

5. Test Thursdays

Try and publish your blog posts on Thursday and compare with posts published on other days of the week. Apparently posts published on Thursdays get most social shares.

6. Have an Angle

Unless you’re writing about something extremely specific and have a monopoly on the subject (writing about different shades of kettle bells for example), there are probably many similar blogs about the topics that you are writing on. Try to have an angle and your own twist on things so you stand out and further consolidate your brand’s tone of voice.

7. Keep ‘em Coming Back

The majority of blog traffic is made up of new visitors, an excellent opportunity to convert, a percentage at least, into serial readers. Creating awesome content will inspire your readers to want to come back. Strike while the iron is hot – invite them to subscribe, either to a newsletter or to receive notifications of new content. This kind of data acquisition is invaluable and provides the basis for an email campaign further down the line.

There are, of course, many more blogging tips but follow these and you will definitely reap the rewards. Don’t take our word for it though, give them a try and let us know how you get on!
