Nowadays a tv ad without a great soundtrack is not as powerful as the ones that have a great matching songs as a theme song. It doesn’t need to be a famous song – it is quite common that the song becomes popular thanks to an ad. That’s why we had a closer look at some of the ads and put a ranking of 10 best tv ads featuring great songs. We’ve also put together a playlist of the songs from TV ads for you to enjoy!
10. Alex Clare – Too Close (Internet Explorer 9)
Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 9 advertising campaign features a dub-step version of Alex Clare’s song ‘Too Close’. Very nice ad but still not convinced about using Internet Explorer.
9. RY X – Berlin (Sony 4K TV – Volcano)
Another brilliant ad from SONY but very similar to the first one of this genre (Sony Bravia). We think It’s time to come up with a different concept , Sony.
8. Hanni El Khatib – You Rascal You (Captain Morgan)
In this commercial Captain Morgan decides to leave a very formal celebration and have a real party in the basement, drinking Black Spiced Rum and listening to You Rascal You by Hanni El Khatib. It makes us think of Game of Thrones so we like it a lot.
7. The Temper Trap - Sweet Disposition (Diet Coke)
“Stay Extraordinary” campaign by Coca Cola features “Sweet Disposition” by The Temper Trap. The vocals we hear in this song come from The band’s frontman, Indonesian- born Dougy Mandagi. Sweet Disposition with zero calories.
6. Clairy Browne & The Bangin’ Rackettes – Love Letter (Heineken)
A brilliant ad in which an ordinary bar turns into something really special. A perfect place to have cold pint of Heineken. The song is by Clairy Browne & The Bangin’ Rackettes, a soul band from Australia
5. The Cadillacs – Speedoo (KFC Colonel’s Bucket)
KFC ad shows representatives from different generations to outline that Kentucky Fried Chicken has been loved from more than 70 years. The soundtrack ia song called Speedoo by The Cadillacs, a doo-wop group from 50’s , probably Colonel’s dudes.
4. The Lumineers – Ho Hey (Bing)
The Lumineers is folk rock band from USA. Their greatest hit, Ho Hey was used on a tv ad for Bing in 2012. The song makes a big part of the whole ad. Not sure about our friends being on Bing to help with our search though.
3. Ed Sheeran – SING (Marks and Spencer – Fashion Trends 2014)
New TV Advert for M&S womenswear collection features SING by Ed Sheeran. This funky tune gave him his first Official Singles Chart Number One. The ad is very funky and up-beat as well.
2. Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros – Home (Peugeot – New 2008 Crossover)
Home by Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros is the alltime favourite song, being reincarnated thanks to a viral video of dad singing with a 4 yo daughter. At the end of the commercial we are encouraged to see the city in a different light. Well listening to that song makes us see everything in a different light .
1. Jose Gonzalez – Heartbeats (Sony Bravia)
In our opinion – the best TV commercials ever. We all love these colorfoul balls bouncing down the streets of San Francisco. And this is not CG, this was done for real. Hearbeats by Jose Gonzales was used as soundrtrack for this ad. This brilliant tune is actually an acoustic cover of the song released in 2002 by a Swedish group The Knife.
