Listen up Londoners – here are 5 Apps that you need to have on your phone! Some of them make the burden of travel a little easier, others are just great fun but all are definitely helpful… Enjoy!
5. Tube ExitsEveryone living in London is always willing to take part in a nice lengthy discussion about the London Underground. Almost everyone spends at least an hour a day on the tube / in a tube station, so we all just love/hate (depending on the day) everything about it. Even if nothing bad has happened on a given day people still find something to talk about – people eating, people sleeping, but that’s another post altogether.
Although your time actually inside the tube isn’t something you have a great deal of control over, wasting your time walking around the station is. We’ve all been there, staring at the exits, not seeing the road we are looking for and then wandering around aimlessly before we give up and guess…
So that’s why we think this app is just brilliant. It shows you exactly which carriage to get into to make sure you’re closest to your exit or transfer tunnel. Yes it is simple but speak to any commuter that’s using it – life = easier.
DownloadiTunes 4. Wordeo
Although this app is not exclusively about London, Wordeo was designed and developed by a team in Shoreditch and can be used in London (as well as anywhere else .) – some might say a slightly tenuous connection, but we are keeping it in here so DEAL WITH IT!
We’re pretty sure you’ve come across these wonderful (or awkward depending on your opinion) compilations on YouTube with words (often inspirational quotes) and images behind them. Well, these are now officially lame (uncool, wack, dumb – thank you urban dictionary) unless they have been made using Wordeo…
With Wordeo, you type the sentence you want to “express” and the app finds short gifs and videos that accurately represent the words (if you don’t like some of them, you can easily edit them and even add your own videos). It looks pretty awesome and we can confirm this is a fact as some celebrities have started using the app – Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, Selena Gomez and Stephen Fry – so it is official.

We clearly don’t need to tell you this but if you’re “trendy” then THE place to hangout nowadays is Shoreditch, of course. So if (we mean when) we go there, it would be really good to know where exactly we should be going!
Enter Hype App, where you will find a stream of events that are happening in East London, plus it comes with cool “hipster-style” graphics to put you in the right mood.
Download:iTunes 2. Citymapper
Out of all London Transport Apps available, why is Citymapper the best? Not because it shows you in an instant all of the possible routes available; not because it shows you how much it will cost you to get from A to B; not because it warns you about the latest Tube Strike and not because it shows you “Rain Safe” routes to make sure you stay as dry as possible.
OH NO…The reason it is awesome is the “alternative routes” and associated time that it gives you. You can find out how long it would take you if you had a Jetpack (yes we mean a tiny helicopter in your backpack) or how long it would take if you could teleport yourself (always 0 seconds). Considering how irritated we all are with the tube most of the time – this new approach to #tubehumour never fails to make us smile.

At number 1 is the Time Out App, just because it has everything you could possibly need when you are out and about in London: Where to go for any event, the best cafes, pubs, restaurants and new things happening around the city. It even has free things going on in the capital, for those weekends when we are all trying to tighten the purse strings. And to top it all off it looks very neat and it’s super simple to use.
A very worthy winner of our No 1 London App.
